This afternoon I took my son to get impressions made for an anterior crossbite. The dentist, Carlos E. De La Pena, hastily overfilled a metal mouth plate with alginate that was dripping all over like slime. I am unaware if it was the dentist or his female assistant who mixed the concoxxion. I noticed a glob of the stuff starting to drip off the back of the plate facing the throat as he went to insert it into my son’s mouth. I said “Wait, it’s dripping too much, he’s going to choke. ” The dentist ignored me and inserted the plate to make impressions of the top teeth. My son was reclining back at the 45 degree angle in the dental chair. After inserting the plate the slime was dripping down into my son's throat and choking him. I yelled at De La Pena "Stop! " and "Take it out! Take it out! ”, and “Jesus Christ take it out he’s choking! ” He and his assistant ignored my cries and ignored the fact that my son was gagging and choking. When the dentist retracted the bite plate my son immediately began throwing up in the dental chair. Both the dentist and assistant acted like it was nothing. After leaving the place my son began getting nauseated and then started throwing up again, heaving up blue chunks of the non-Newtonian fluid that had slid down his throat. I called the dental office to tell them, and the lady at the front desk said "There's no way he could have swallowed that during the making of impressions". And so I went directly back to the office to show them the content of the vomit that had the blue pieces of goo in it. The dentist, front desk clerk and assistant all saw the evidence and acted like this was normal and that there was nothing wrong with how things went at this appointment. I'm reporting him to the board and recommend that nobody go to this shady, negligent "dentist". After witnessing this traumatic incident with my son, I do not believe that Carlos Eduardo De La Pena is qualified nor competent to practice orthodontics especially for children. He knowingly caused physical and psychological harm to my son and myself. In addition, when confronted he showed absolutely no remorse and has the inability to see his own wrongdoing. I am also filing criminal charges for assault as I as the guardian instructed De La Pena to stop with this non-urgent procedure and although hearing my cries clearly and seeing my son gagging and choking in distress, he proceeded with the process against my will. I feel strongly that the dentist needs immediate disciplinary action or others will continue to be harmed by his malpractice.
